More About Hout Bay
- Hout Bay was originally inhabited by the Khoi people, who called it "Houtkraal" or "Wooden Kraal". The Dutch arrived in the area in the 1650s and renamed it "Hout Bay". The area was used for timber production and fishing, and a small settlement grew up around the harbour. In the 19th century, the area became a popular tourist destination, and the town of Hout Bay was officially founded in 1867. Today, Hout Bay is a thriving town with a population of over 17,000 people. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches, stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and its fresh seafood. The town is also home to a number of schools, businesses, and community organizations.

Our sunset kayak tour is available to everyone of any level of experience with kayaking. Whether you’re new to the activity or you make it a regular practice to explore the ocean in a kayak, you’re welcome to join the adventure. The tour is fully guided by a certified, experienced, and friendly guide. At the start of the tour, they’ll help everyone get up to speed for the journey. This includes introducing the area and providing a safety briefing. Once briefed and familiar with the equipment, you’re ensured a comfortable, safe, and pleasant time on the water. Your tour guide will also get you fitted in a life jacket and bring your kayak to the water. Once on the water, you will pause to watch the sunset. And you’ll be treated to your choice of a glass of champagne, beer, or cider as you take it all in. All necessary paddling and safety equipment are included with the tour. And the meetup location comprises changing rooms and secure lockers for your belongings. Watching the sun descend into the ocean is one of the most memorable experiences imaginable. There’s no better place to indulge in the view than from your own private, floating island. An incredible kayak trip in Cape Town awaits!
